Kona, HI Day 6 Part 2

So after boogie boarding all morning, we all relaxed and got ready for our Halloween luau.  Everyone but Kayla and I wore Hawaiian themed outfits (except probably Uncle Brendan.)  Kayla had a custom made Halloween costume by Aunt Meg Designs - iron on coconut bra and sewn on string.  She was so stinking cute.

So we drove to the Sheraton's Haleo Luau and got Kayla dressed in her costume when we got there.

How stinkin' cute is she?

We then got in line to go into the luau, which was quite small (this was abnormal so we hear.)  After we got settled at our front row table, Gigi, Papa and Daddy stayed with Kayla while the rest of us went to explore and take photos of the sunset.

I wanted to take a couple silhouette photos.  Didn't turn out terrible, but I'm still working on it.

When we got back to the table, they started the festivities off with some tradition Hawaiian arts and crafts.  We choose to learn a hula dance.  Kayla was learning too...

We had some extra time so Kayla got a Hawaiian "tattoo"- the symbol for Ha: the breath of life. (You can see her stamp more clearly in the photos above.)

If you have never been to Hawaii, you should go.  It doesn't really matter what Island, but definitely go to a Luau.  The food is to die for.  I can officially recommend the Polynesian Cultural Center's Ha: Breath of Life Luau and Show on Oahu, the Westin Ka'anapali Luau on Maui and the Sheraton's Haleo Luau on the Big Island.  And honestly, this one was my favorite.

Kayla ate some of the bread and pork at the luau and loved it.

After we ate, the show started.  We did the wedding/anniversary dance (another Hawaiian tradition as we did this on our honeymoon as well.)

The show was really awesome.  Similar to the show at the Polynesian Cultural Center, where they teach you a little about each of the polynesian cultures and their different forms of expression/dance, but I actually like this one better.  (Maybe because so far, the Big Island is my favorite island.)  After all the wonderful dancers, came the fire man. :)

All in all, it was an awesome night and very memorable first Halloween for Kayla.  The Hula dancers loved her costume.  She was so good and stayed up extra late, but again, was an angel.  And we bought the most awesome real flower earrings at the hotel from a guy who is only there from the opposite side of the island on Mondays, go figure.
