Pumpkin Patch? Or Kid's Amusement Park...

A couple weeks before Halloween, Kevin, Lauren and Liam came down to go to a pumpkin patch with us.  I had done some research and had roughly decided on one close to our house but a little bit further north.  (Next year, I'm thinking the other one I had narrowed it down to might be a better option...)

We drove out near the opening time and there was a stop and go line on a major road just to turn into the Farm.  I really wasn't expecting that.  I guess I didn't frequent many pumpkin patches in my youth.  We got in a parked and heading into the farm.  To say it was overwhelming is an understatement.

They had:

  • Petting zoo
  • Toddler/kid rides
  • Arts and Crafts area
  • Food
  • Hay rides (horse drawn or tractor drawn)
  • and of course a pumpkin patch
Oh, and the one activity we did with Kayla - the classic fall activity of camel rides.  Yes, I'm serious.  It's no secret I'm not a huge fan of crowds, and I kinda felt like I was a mom failure because I didn't want to pay a ton of money and wait in a bunch of lines to do a bunch of stuff with Kayla that she won't remember.  We were just going to walk around and then pick out some pumpkins, but when we walked by the camels, I asked Kayla if she wanted to ride.  She replied, "Dit!" (Sit). So Justin went to buy some tickets for us.  She loved it, after the initial shock and fear, and by this point we were sort of running out of time to do more things with her.  I would have liked to do the arts/crafts and maybe the petting zoo with her.  The kids rides were a little bit much for her, I doubt she would have gone by herself but maybe when she's a little older that would be fun.

She really loved picking out pumpkins though!  And cleaning the dirt off of them!

Here are some unedited photos of our day on the pumpkin farm.  No photos of Brody as he slept in the stroller the whole time we were there!  (I did grab one photo on my phone.)

I will post some photos of pumpkin carving and Halloween in the next couple of days, and maybe a DIY Halloween costume post.

MMMM Hot dog for lunch...who needs a bun?

Waiting in line for the Camels.

Not too thrilled at first.

Pumpkins!

Sitting on the pumpkins.

Cleaning dirt off the pumpkins.

Found a "broom" to help with the cleaning.

Hugs from Kayla.  Notice the fear in the boys' eyes.
