So I actually don't think I have mentioned this yet, but my little sister is pregnant as well. She is due 6 days before me (September 4th) so it should be a very fun fall! I'm excited to have this little thing to share with her and for my little ones to have a cousin close in age. Our family is already so much fun and now the fun is growing exponentially.
The thing about it is, she is teeny tiny and very active and very long waisted. It's also her first baby, but she is almost a week ahead of me and so teeny tiny in comparison to my growing whale of a belly. It's hard for me to grasp since I was so little when I was pregnant with Kayla. I'm also pretty unhappy with my non pregnancy weight and looks post baby anyways. I only have myself to blame for not getting back to working out quicker after having Kayla. It's really quite difficult to get some sort of workout in when you are trying to save money and you really hate running.
Anyways, I'm not mad that Lauren is so much smaller than me. I realize there are a lot of factors to this whole thing that make our situations completely different. I'm just trying to motivate myself right now to try to find a way to make more time for me after this baby comes so I can get into a shape where I am happy with myself too.
What no one tells you is that when you are a working mom, it is HARD to find time to do something for yourself. For me, I really want to spend my spare time with Kayla so it's hard for me to justify giving up that time to go to the gym. Do you guys have any suggestions? I'm thinking step #1 is giving up some t.v.
Hi. My name is Melissa and I'm addicted to prime time television.

Focusing on Me
So, I have "love 15 pounds" on my 101 list, and I've recently been thinking about this a lot. We are being so graciously taken to Hawaii at the end of October by my parents. It. is. going. to. be. AWESOME! But, I'm still so unhappy with the shape that my body is in (as you can read about here.) When you were a varsity athlete in college, and you know the shape you CAN be in, it's hard to be happy any other way. While I know I probably will NEVER be in that shape again, I'd really like to get back to working out and eating better and just generally feeling good about myself.
Here are my issues:
Here are my issues:
- Due to Kayla's lack of sleep, I'm so exhausted I can hardly imagine lifting her up let alone working out for 30-45 minutes.
- The more I think about it, the more I think, "Well, we'd like to get pregnant again sooner rather than later (not too soon) and I'm just gonna get big again, so what's the point?"
- My back/entire right leg are really killing me.
- I don't have that many option on what exercise to do at this moment.
Here is what my "desperate to feel better about myself" side responds:
- Don't blame Kayla for your laziness. You will feel better if you do even 30 minutes of something, trust me.
- You'd really like to get in good shape again PRIOR to getting pregnant again so you can hopefully have another smooth pregnancy. And you really don't want that baby weight compounding on top of itself with Baby#2!
- You can think of any excuse, do your exercises to help make it feel better, you are a PT for Pete's sake!
- You are going to do Jillian Michael's 30 day shred with Megan every time she does it. At least it is something until you get your life more situated.
So, I'm making a conscious effort to put at least a 30-45 minutes focus on ME every day. I think it will make me a better mom in the long run. Anyone want to join me and be a "cyber workout buddy?"
Happy Hump Day!
P.S. I'll be checking off something on my 101 list today, so stay tuned for an update. I'll probably do it after the weekend!

6 week...
post partum appointment for mom! It was yesterday. And it went really well.
I saw Donna, who is the midwife I saw my last visit before Kayla was born. She is the one that stripped my membranes. She told me that Patrice actually sent her a text telling her when Kayla was born since she has stripped them 3 days prior. She told me that my stitches were fully healed and everything looked great. I'm still having a very small amount of pain but she said that was normal and may be from some swelling. She asked me a bunch of questions about the day Kayla was born and her stats and everything. Asked me if I had felt any post-partum depression. I told her that only for the first two weeks. She said that's totally normal and they call that post-partum blues. Here were the important things I found out:
1. We can have sex again...maybe this is TMI but it's nice to know as we DO want more children eventually.
2. Good news: I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Bad news: I didn't really like that weight anyways so my goal is to lose about 15-20 lbs...maybe just tone everything up. Now to figure out how to do it.
3. I forgot to ask about exercise but I guess if I feel ok with it, I'm ok-ed to do it. So soon enough, I'll be back on my bike and I'm thinking about going to baby and me yoga tomorrow.
This weekend we are moving in with Aunt Meg. Should be fun. Hopefully we can find some room for all of Kayla's things...Justin and I are hardly bringing anything but clothes.
I'm going to try to start taking more video of Kayla as she is VERY smiley and "talking" a lot especially after she eats. I don't think I can put videos on my blog right now, but I'll try to upload them to my SmugMug page.
